Once each of the pressure is gone, the lid could be easily twisted and lifted off. We discovered this layout to become way easier to decipher than other cookers that use some form of striped valve that moves up and down to indicate pressure. The Zavor also provides a yellow pressure indicator that reassures you the pot is still pressurized.Lesley S
